This gold dredge has been restored, and looks like it could start up tomorrow. The two huge diesel engines, generators, electric motors, and controls are there. The bucket lines are intact. The dredge was riveted together which is why it was not dismantled long ago. There are docents at the dredge to explain how everything worked, including a woman whom grew up there. The massive destruction done to the land is also intact. The ghost town of Custer has several houses, and buildings that have been maintained in partial disrepair. It is easy to see how people lived during that time period. The entire area is a history lesson. This is all in some of the most ruggedly beautiful areas in Idaho.
