The transport museum is an excellent display of really interesting and evocative exhibits. All items are excellently displayed and the whole thing is fun yet educational. As an added bonus there are great views of the Hull Trawler the Arctic Corsair particularly from the first floor and like all the museums in Hull is free of charge. A real credit to the city of Hull.
I often come to the Ferens for a potter around. The permanent exhibition has some real gems, including works by Canaletto, Sickert, Ward, Ribera and an excellent Dutch School collection. The collection of Hull maritime history art upstairs is fascinating. Also, the modern art including Mr Great Heart by Peter Howson in the entrance lobby and the Surrealist and Vorticist art upstairs make this a great gallery to wander around. The temporary exhibitions are really varied and well worth a look. The cafe is lovely and good value for money and the gift shop has good gift ideas. Well worth regular visits!
This is a brilliant museum, free to enter. You're route through it is like a journey through time, explaining geology and geography of the area. There are many fine exhibits from the stone age, ancient Britons, Romans Saxons Vikings. and the medieval era. A preserved iron age boat from the Humber, mock up of an ancient British village. Roman streets, shops and mosaics. It really is an under advertised treasure trove.
