First of all, the picture of the title is St. Martin's church, not St. Matthew's church. Another famous church in Colmar is the Church of Saint Matthieu. The Franciscan church, built in 1292, predates St. Martin's Cathedral. In the 16th century, the church was changed into a Protestant church. In 1627, during the thirty year war, the Jesuits recaptured the church and Protestantism was banned. But in 1632, the Protestant Swedish army captured Colmar again, and Jesuits were hunted. In 1715, the king of France ordered the choir to be returned to Catholics. The main hall was allocated to Protestants and a wall was built in the middle. In 1937, the church as a whole was given to Protestants, and the wall was demolished fifty years later.

The church is simple and simple, and there is no particularly gorgeous decoration. In the center of the old city, I happened to live in the loft room on the top floor of the nearby hotel.
