The Exchange Square was built in 1730-1775. It was named after Louis Philippe I in 1848. The three goddess fountains on the square were placed in 1869. The Plaza is surrounded by many exquisite 18th century buildings, including the exchange palace, the Bordeaux chamber of Commerce and industry and the National Customs Museum. Every summer, the artificial fountain on the east side of the square forms a "miroir d'eau" a few centimeters deep, which becomes a place for children to play with water.
