St Augustine's Abbey

Info
Canterbury monastery is often missed by tourists outside the east wall of Canterbury, but it is the largest monastery in England with a long history. It was founded by Augustine when he came to England. It has a large scale, including three churches. After continuous expansion and renovation after the fire, it has the largest area in the 16th century. Even the library has a considerable collection of books at that time. However, Henry VIII failed to survive in the religious reform. Most of them were demolished in 1538 and began to be excavated and protected in 1844. It is considered as the most important Saxon relics in England.

St. Augustine abbey is part of Canterbury's World Heritage site and the first ruins I have ever seen in England. British church manor and castle ruins belong to English heritage. The package ticket is 30 pounds. It takes more than three tickets in a certain period of time to be worth the ticket price. Even now, I bought the tickets alone. After the Romans left England was the time of the Saxon kings. Among the ruins are the tomb of the famous King Alfred, as well as the tombs of other unnamed kings of Saxon Kent. The fourth queen of Henry VIII, Anne of cleave from Germany, stayed here when she arrived in England. She also made a temporary palace during the period when Henry VIII abolished the monastery, but it was finally abandoned. I don't like the gloom in the Gothic church. The chapels that were supposed to be dark look more comfortable and beautiful without the dome and exposed to the sun. The dining and activity areas of the priests are indistinct, and the hidden forest road at the end is also beautiful. The introduction of this place is very clear in the museum beside the ruins, and even there is a small VR for people to experience. I think it's better to look at the ruins than the original.

As a part of the world cultural heritage, this is the place where the punch in person must go. But as an ordinary tourist, it doesn't make much sense to go here. Today, only the early church remains are left here. There are too few parts to watch. More importantly, the tickets are too expensive

On the northeast side of the wall of biray, Kent, it's easy to miss if you don't follow the map. It is a world heritage site and the largest Abbey in England. It is said that King Kent at that time married a Christian wife, so Christianity was popularized here in the context of sectarian strife at that time. There are also some sarcophagus tombs of dignitaries. The free museum is also worth visiting.
