Compared with Matilda's women's Monastery, it is obviously better than William's men's Monastery in terms of scale and fame. This is an atypical Norman building after many transformations: the magnificent turret, the Romanesque nave, the Gothic Choir (after careful observation, it will be found that each woodcut head is different), of course, the most eye-catching is the tomb of Duke William the conqueror himself. To be sure, the tomb was destroyed during the Calvinist movement. What you see now is that it was rebuilt later.

On the other side of the town hall. Admission is required. I don't think we can get in. The ticket price is not low.

As a chapel of & eacute; glise ST - & eacute; tienne, the monastery was first built in 1066 in Roman style. But by the time it was finished in the 13th century, the style had changed to Gothic.

St. Etienne's church on the west side of Caen men's monastery is the place where William the conqueror lies. There is a monument of William the conqueror in front of the altar in the center of the church. The church is also known for its Gothic towers. The building on the east side of the monastery, originally a residential area, has been transformed into a town hall.

It's a very beautiful and magnificent religious building with gorgeous and exquisite decoration. This should be the first tourist destination in Caen.

The Abbey of Saint-Étienne, also known as Abbaye aux Hommes ("Men's Abbey"), is a former Benedictine monastery in the French city of Caen, Normandy, dedicated to Saint Stephen. It was founded in 1063 by William the Conqueror and is one of the most important Romanesque buildings in Normandy.

Kirkkkkk

It's just a big monastery. Then it's nothing special. But personally, I'm interested in all kinds of church monasteries and so on. So I'm very happy. It's very beautiful. It's said that you can go to the bell tower.

The second time I visited here in September, it didn't have many unique features, but in the post-war cities, there are still some reserved ones that are worth visiting.

There is also a love story behind the monastery. Caen had a convent and a convent, which were donated by William the conqueror and empress Mathilda. At that time, the Holy See blocked their marriage on the ground that they were five generations of consanguinity, so they donated and built a monastery as a condition in exchange for the Holy See's recognition of marriage.
