Coventry is a small city. Despite the war, the cathedral was left in ruins. But it's still shocking. From the incomplete broken wall and the reddish brown top, we can think of the perfect and spectacular at that time. In order to commemorate, people did not push down the dilapidated buildings and build tall buildings like China. Instead, a corridor was built on the dilapidated wall to link a newly built church. Let people remember that war forever. At the same time, let people pray for God in the new church. The city is small, but there are many things to see.

Info

Coventry Cathedral, also known as St Michael's Cathedral, is located in the center of Coventry. On November 14, 1940, the magnificent Coventry cathedral was reduced to ruins in a Nazi blitz. In 1962, a new church was built beside the ruins. Composer Benjamin Britten (1913-1976) wrote "Requiem of war" which was first performed at the completion ceremony. The lyrics used the poems of Wilfred Owen (1893-1918), a poet who died in the first World War. The church's stained glass and Gothic spires are exquisite, as are the Christian tapestries inside (by Graham Sutherland). The doorway sculpture by Jacob Epstein shows the scene of Saint Michael fighting the devil.

Coventry cathedral is located in the center of Coventry. It was destroyed by the Nazi air attack. Only the outer wall and the top of Gothic style remain. It becomes a permanent memorial of Coventry's dark time. The new church is built next to the walls of the old church. In this modernist style building, there is not only an organ of the future style, but also colored glass windows and Jacob Epstein's sculptures, which show the scene of Saint Michael's battle against the devil. Right in front of the church is Coventry University. If you are interested, you can take a look. Ticket price: free (please note that if tourists want to take photos inside the church, they need to buy a photo ticket at the door), but the church encourages people to donate, and there is a donation box in the church Opening hours: Monday to Saturday 10:00-17:00; Sunday noon-16:00

Coventry is a small cathedral. It's very high, but it's not very big. I remember Coventry's squirrels are not afraid of people

Although he came to Kao village for half a year, he did not come to the cathedral, which was burned by incendiary bombs in World War II. Standing in the center of the site, you can feel the magnificence and brilliance of the church in the past. However, the blue sky contrasts with the regret that only the stone exterior wall remains. On the side of the cathedral is Coventry Cathedral, which was built after the referendum. It is very modern.

Looking at the cathedral from afar, I feel the war history of Coventry, and the sadness of history is revealed in the vast memory

At the beginning of World War II, the British had deciphered the German code. In order to achieve a higher strategic goal, the British could only sacrifice Coventry, the industrial base of the British army. So the city was savagely bombed by the Nazi air force on November 14, 1940. Coventry cathedral was directly hit, and the whole church was destroyed by bombing and fire. Although the church has been ruined, the British regard it as a national treasure, which is strictly protected, in order to commemorate the victims of war, promote human peace, and show Coventry style sacrifice and redemption.
