A Benedictine Abbey rebuilt on the site of Saxon Cathedral, from Norman arch to Gothic pillars, and spectacular 14th century wood carvings, showcases centuries of craftsmanship. Chester cathedral is a first-class building. It used to be an important fortress in the Roman Empire, but in the late Roman era, there may have been a church here. At the beginning of the 21st century, the church was renovated and maintained on a large scale.
