Castlerock is a small seaside resort 6 miles from Coleraine. Attractions include a beautiful sandy beach and an attactive and challenging links golf course with magnificent views across to the Donegal hills. Close by (2km) is Downhill Castle, a National Trust property now in ruins but once the home of its creator The "Earl Bishop" Hervey and the Bruce Family. The surrounds to the castle include the Black Glen containing species shrubs and trees and a lake and the famous Mussenden Temple on the edge of the cliff with views of the 7 miles strand of Benone, the Foyle Estuary and Innishowen. Looking north there are views of the Scottish Isles - Islay and Jura. Castlerock and environs is a designated AONB - Area of Oustanding Natural Beauty.
